Home Fitness: How to Choose the Right Exercise Equipment
As easy as it may seem, buying exercise equipment takes a lot of considerations. Let us look at the factors that really matter when making a purchase:
Determine your goal
The entire process of selecting which type of exercise equipment is right for you and how much do you need to spend for it relies on what goals you wish to accomplish along with your current fitness level. So before selecting one or limiting yourself to which treadmill or elliptical trainer is right for you, ask yourself, "What do I want to achieve?" Do you wish to improve your cardiovascular health? Do you want to develop strength? Do you wish to boost your energy? Such questions, when answered right away would lead you to identifying which type of equipment do you really need.
Set your Budget
The second, most important thing you need to determine is how much you are willing to spend on a particular type of home fitness equipment. Different types of exercise equipment have varying costs. A good treadmill costs from $1500 to $3500. An elliptical trainer ranges from $200 to $5000. A stationary bike ranges between $500 and $1000. The old adage, "you get what you pay for" still applies here so make sure that you balance between affordability, features and usability.
Note:
Not because you can use your credit card to purchase a thousand dollar elliptical trainer or a $3000 treadmill means that you can afford it. Study your financial position and know exactly how much you can spend on a certain purchase.
Space
Aside from your goal and budget, the 2 other equally important things to remember when purchasing exercise equipment are: to test the equipment and to measure the size of the equipment. While the former is somewhat automatic, the latter is often overlooked, simply because when you are at the store, it is hard to tell if the equipment will really fit in to your available space. So consider the space needed for the equipment. (This applies whether you have a home gym whole room or just a small space in the living room.)
Shop Around
A wise shopper does not settle in one store. Visit at least 2 stores to compare prices of the same equipment. It also pays to do your research online so that you are armed with the right information about a particular product you are eyeing at. Read product reviews whenever it is available.
Do not be deceived
People will do everything to make a sale. So if you see TV ads saying that you can lose several inches off your waist or lose several pounds after a week, don't fall prey. Yes, they sound too good to be true, and they are. Quick-fix products with "before" and "after" testimonials may be too attractive but remember this: bodies do not change radically after a number of sessions. Because if it does, everyone who desires to have a six-pack abs or who wants to lose pounds upon pounds of weight should be contented right now.
Consider all the cost
Transportation, shipping, installation and other extra charges can pile up easily. So before buying one, make sure that you take note all these charges so that you will be ready for the total amount that you have to pay.
Hope this helps when choosing Fitness equipment

20 Detox Friendly Foods
I don’t necessarily believe in detox only diets, but I do think that adding more detox friendly foods into the diet can help with over health, energy, skin health, good digestion, weight management, and quality sleep. Below are 20 of my favorite detox foods which I consume on a weekly basis and absolutely love!
Lemon: Lemons have strong antibacterial, antiviral, and immune-boosting powers and can be used as a weight-loss aid because lemon juice is a digestive aid and liver cleanser. Lemon juice can also help manage acid reflux and reduce the acidity in the stomach.
Cayenne Pepper: Peppers are one of the richest sources of Vitamin C. All hot peppers contain capsaicin, a compound known for it’s ability to regulate body temps, improve circulation and help reduce appetite and burn more calories.
Ginger: Ginger is perfect for getting your metabolism moving and flushing waste and toxins out of the body. Ginger is also a natural stomach ache cure.
Grapefruit: Grapefruit is an excellent source of vitamin c which helps to support the immune system. Vitamin C-rich foods like grapefruit may help reduce cold symptoms or severity of cold symptoms. Vitamin C also prevents the free radical damage that triggers the inflammatory cascade, and is therefore also associated with reduced severity of inflammatory conditions, such as asthma, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis
Green Tea: Green tea can help increase and even change your metabolism, so you burn more calories from fat. Studies show that green tea can also help you keep weight off once you’ve lost it.
Kale: Kale contains powerful antioxidant compounds that can help cleanse the body of harmful substances and potentially prevent cancer causing free radicals. It is also high in fiber, which helps cleanse the intestinal tract.
Asparagus: Asparagus is a natural diuretic that can help rid the body of excess water weight and toxins seeking to rid the body.
Turmeric: This powerful root is both an anti-inflammatory—great for sore muscles—and contains antioxidant properties. It’s one of the top ingredients in immune boosting shots, juices and supplements. I’ve also noticed smoother, clearer skin from my daily dose of turmeric.
Broccoli: Broccoli has a strong, positive impact on our body’s detoxification system, and is able to support all steps in the body’s detox process, including activation, neutralization, and elimination of unwanted contaminants.
Cucumber: The high water content and dietary fiber in cucumbers are very effective in ridding the body of toxins from the digestive system, aiding digestion. Daily consumption of cucumbers can be regarded as a remedy for chronic constipation.
Apple Cider Vinegar: Raw apple cider vinegar is alkalizing, helps with digestion, and can help with fat metabolism. Look for raw, 8 unfiltered apple cider vinegar to get the most benefits.
Cinnamon: Studies suggest that cinnamon may have a regulatory effect on blood sugar which is great for people trying to lose weight or manage diabetes. Cinnamon can also help lower cholesterol in the body and is heart healthy.
Pomegranate: Pomegranates are high in antioxidants, vitamins, fiber, minerals. With potassium, vitamins C and K, this winter fruit is great for your heart, skin, immune system and it’s great for post workout recovery.
Chia Seeds: These tiny seeds are high in essential fatty acids like heart healthy, Omega 3, in addition to vitamins, antioxidants, minerals and fiber. They are one of my favorite ways of adding heart healthy protein into my diet.
Garlic: Garlic contains manganese, vitamin B6, antioxidants, anti- inflammatory properties, as well as valued sulfur compounds that contribute to heart health!
Probiotics: Probiotics are an excellent way to add good bacteria back into the intestinal track and help with digestion.
Blueberries: Blueberries contain natural aspirin that helps lessen the tissue-damaging effects of chronic inflammation, and also act as antibiotics by blocking bacteria and thereby helping to prevent infections.
Strawberries: Berries are high in antioxidants like resveratol, essential vitamins and also contain fiber to keep you feeling full! Strawberries are also a great source of folate which has been shown to help keep your heart healthy.
Fish Oil: Some experts believe that getting fish oil can help you regulate your cholesterol in the body, because fish oil has high levels of omega 3 fatty acids. Besides cholesterol regulation, fish oil benefits include anti inflammatory properties and positive effects on the bodies composition.
Water: Water is the bodies best form of detox. Since our bodies consist of primarily water, increasing water intake is like feeding the body in its most natural state. If you really want to feel great and flush out toxins, drink up!

AN ORANGE A DAY WILL …
Ah, the humble orange. This fruit is so common that we rarely hear about just how nutritious it is. We got nuts over superfoods with exotic names from exotic regions, but we often forget that super nutrition can come from food items we have access to all of the time. Case in point: oranges.
I start every day with a glass of freshly-squeezed organic orange juice. I started doing this when I began Gerson Therapy over three years ago, and I continue to do it today. It’s the only time I drink straight fruit juice, because the benefits of a little OJ each day outweigh the argument that fruit juice is a pretty much sugar infusion.
Consuming an orange every day will …
+ Strengthen your immune system. The high content of vitamin C in an orange stimulates the production of white cells in our body, thus improving the immune system. This is why Gerson Therapy patients drink OJ every day.
+ Prevent cancer. Not only does the high vitamin C content in oranges act as an antioxidant, but oranges and other citrus fruits contain a compound called D-limonene which has been found to be effective in preventing cancers such as, skin, breast, lung, mouth and colon. Being low in sodium and high in potassium is also a cancer-preventing asset of oranges.
+ Lower cholesterol. One of the most important flavonoids in oranges is hesperidin. Hesperidin and the pectin in oranges have been shown to lower LDL cholesterol – although it’s best to consume the inner peel of the orange to obtain the highest concentration of hesperidin.
+ Lower inflammation. The oranges anti-inflammatory properties enable it to provide relief from conditions like arthritis and stiffness of muscles and joints.
+ Promote glowing skin. The antioxidants in orange help protect the skin from free radical damage known to cause signs of aging.
+ Power up the brain. Oranges are a good source of folate or folic acid which helps in the proper development of brain. Folate is also an essential nutrient for healthy sperm and protects sperm from genetic damage that may cause birth defects.
+ Relieve constipation. Oranges are full of dietary fibre, which stimulates digestive juices and relieves constipation.
+ Alkalize the body. Although oranges are acidic before you digest them (just like lemons), they contain alkaline minerals that help to tip the acid/alkaline balance in the body in the right direction after they’re digested.
I don’t recommend drinking any more than one glass of orange juice each day. Too much will spike insulin levels. Eating the fruit whole will slow down the release of sugar, but still don’t go crazy consuming tonnes of them daily. I always aim to treat fruit like a treat.

Positive affirmation for the day: I am worthy.
